Route

1st Stage. Friday April 26 – Il Chianti

3 pm   Departure from Poggibonsi, an important economic and social centre of the Valdelsa, towards the Chianti region on a route immersed in fantastic landscapes, dotted with spectacular vineyards and extraordinary olive groves. Passages through the centres of the small villages of San Donato and Mercatale to reach Greve in Chianti, the capital of Chianti which will welcome us in its famous Piazza Triangolare. Passages through the historic centres of Radda in Chianti and Castellina in Chianti. Return to Poggibonsi (6.30 pm) along the panoramic road of Villarosa.

 

2nd Stage. Saturday 27 April – Calanchi – Maremma – Argentario

9.45 am   Departure from Poggibonsi for San Gimignano (medieval village, UNESCO heritage), and then on to Volterra with a small coffee break. We will cross the Calanchi, a very beautiful area, called the Green Desert. From here on to Pomarance and Larderello, in an extreme landscape crossed by geothermal pipes. Up to Massa Marittima with a smart lunch in its main square dominated by the majestic Cathedral. From here you enter the Maremma up to the seaside village of Castiglion della Pescaia, on its seafront. And then up to Magliano in Tuscany, and the usual passage of the Corsa in its small historic centre teeming with restaurants. And finally Porto Ercole on the fishing dock, a historic place where the Ancillotti brothers went to get their fish for their restaurant. Crossing the “real Maremma”, the Uccellina Park, and Alberese you get to Grosseto, which crosses in its historic centre up to Piazza Dante. From here a short ride to the Hotel Fattoria la Principina (7 pm) for dinner and overnight stay.

 

3rd Stage. Sunday 28 April – Val d’Orcia – Crete Senesi – Piazza del Campo

7.45 am   Departure from the Park of the Hotel Fattoria La Principina towards Cinigiano, Val d’Orcia, the magnificent Unesco Heritage Valley, up to Montalcino (home of the legendary Brunello wine) for a short coffee break. Time check in Buonconvento and from here to the magnificent landscape of the Crete, Murlo, Vescovado, Radi. Siena awaits us with a passage (and a short break) in Piazza del Campo, the Piazza del Palio, fascinating and unique in the world. Crossing the Castle of Monteriggioni and Colle di Val d’Elsa, up to Poggibonsi for the Macchi Trophy (1 pm).
